Here is a comment made on one of my posts regarding libido. Thank you. This is just the sort of interaction I hoped for with my blog. Women need to hear from other women (and men) on this sensitive topic. Here is her comment so you don't have to dig throught the posts to find it.
"A book (and author) I often recommend to patients in this situation is "The Great American Sex Diet" by Laura Corn. It talks about some of the same stuff you did and gives the reader a plan (diet) to follow to get things perked up."
Some of you are very good at "following" a plan and less so at planning a strategy of your own. This book is a perfect recipe for you. At the end of the day, it is still in your hands so give it a shot.

Dr, Kelly, can you recommend natural supplements that can be taken to help with perimenopause and menopause? I'm 45, had a partial hysterecotomy 15 years ago, am gaining weight, not sleeping, feeling grumpy, and much to my dismay growing a mustache....help!
Hello little sparkles. That's quite a name for a 45 year old woman. I like it. You should have no problem keeping zest in your life. :)
ABout "Natural therapies" it depends on waht you mean by natural. This is an overused term and much of the general public looks at anything over the counter as "natural". In fact, you must take care to be sure that any remedy you use is FDA regulated or you risk impurities, etc. being in the formulation you use. The OTC remedies tend to be classified as food supplements rather than as medication making them excempt from FDA scrutiny. Furthermore, their efficacy is questionable. Some evidence suggests that a vergetarian diet can help with some of these symptoms.
At menopause, we have an increase in our abdominal girth almost universally. Some women have more than others. This is true is women who are on hormones and those not on hormonal therapy.
There is hope.........diets and exercise programs designed to increase your metabolism are key. Sadly, the muffin tops we develop at menopause are not easy to shed.
Many women turn to liposculpture to eliminate this bothersome area of excess fat deposition. This may not be the "natural way" but in the right hands, this can be a great option and give you that jump start and boost of confidence that you need.
Hope that helps.
