Fractional Resurfacing Can Eliminate Acne, Other Scars

It is so exciting when a patient comes in with a problem I can fix. Just this week, we had great success stories with our fractional resurfacing treatments. One patient has acne scars that have bothered her for years. She just had her third treatment and we are seeing excellent results. Now her skin looks younger and healthier and she can re-enter the job market with added confidence. She will continue to see improvement over the next four to six months.

Another patient came in for a C-section scar that is raised and thick. After four treatments, she is noting a dramatic improvement and is very happy with her results. It is so gratifying to be able to help patients feel better about their appearance.

Do you have questions about fractional resurfacing? Read on!

What is the advantage of this treatment?

The hand piece we utilize in conjunction with our IPL machine is a fractional, non-ablative skin resurfacing treatment. The goal is a reduction in fine wrinkles, reduction of acne scars and other scars, and a reduction in pore size. All of these benefits lead to rejuvenation of the skin.

What areas can be treated?

Face, chest, and arms are the primary target areas. The fractional resurfacing is excellent in the treatment of hypertrophic scars. A hypertrophic scar is a raised scar and can occur after any injury or surgical procedure. It may take several sessions.

What is the mechanism?
This technology utilizes an array of hundreds of high-precision micro-beams delivered up to 1 mm deep. These micro-beams create deep, narrow columns of coagulation in the dermis and epidermis that stimulate the body’s natural healing response. New, healthy tissue grows and leads to a younger appearance.

What is the recovery time?
There is some minor swelling and edema for most people but these do not necessarily require a reduction in a person’s daily activities. (See photo of patient imediately after a treatment.)

How long does it take to notice results?
Often people notice positive changes within a few days. A series of treatments at one to four week intervals may be required to achieve the desired results
